The Preliminary Report of the Labour Force Survey, LFS 2025 shows that the total population of working age, 18 years and above increased by 0.8 per cent, from 346,000 persons in 2024 to 348,700 persons in 2025. Of the total, 66.5 per cent participated in the labour force, while 33.5 per cent were outside the labour force. The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, Ministry of Finance of Economy in its report shared the employed population in 2025 was 220,400 persons, a decrease of 0.9 per cent compared with 222,300 persons in 2024.
Local workers remained the main contributors, accounting for 70.9 per cent of the employed population. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate increased slightly from 4.7 per cent in 2024 to 5 per cent in 2025. The number of persons in the outside labour force rose to 116,700 persons, compared with 112,800 persons in 2024. This group includes individual aged 60 and above, including recipients of the Old Age Pension, which also show an increasing trend.
